I recently bought a house, and just got my $8k from the feds. I can tell you it is absolutely NOT a draw to buy a house. Nor does it make purchasing the house any easier. In fact, it can't be used for that purpose anymore. The previous 0% interest loan they offered could be leveraged to help buy a house, but the $8k can not.

With that said ... it was a far better 'stimulus' plan than the ones we've been dealing with. We were able to pay off our annual taxes, a couple of debts, make some purchases, and build a savings. This made the transition to being a home owner far easier, but did not make buying the home any easier.
