2010 government salaries now available on TransparentNevada

Head on over to NPRI's TransparentNevada and check out the redesigned site featuring salary data from 2010.

In no particular order, here are my top five most unbelievable salaries received in 2010.

1. James M. Jackson, Chief Marshall, North Las Vegas: $792,834.99
2. Joseph K. Forti, Chief of Police, North Las Vegas: $773,136.12
3. Monica M. Simmons, City Clerk, Henderson: $628,430.48
5. Billie M. Bastian, Director of Leisure Services, Las Vegas: $348,140.76

I don't know what the Director of Leisure Services does, but for $350K you sure could get a lot of leisure.

There's a whole bunch more at TransparentNevada, including State of Nevada contracts, congressional disbursements and Clark County School District warrants (payments made by CCSD), so check it out.

You can also become a fan of TransparentNevada on Facebook.

So which salary is your "favorite"? Remember, you're paying for it.

I'm disturbed by this. I trust in your figures, but it's hard to believe these are correct salaries especially the chief's salary of almost one million dollars. Now wait a minute who's allowing this? It sure isn't the taxpayers.

Where are the salaries of the governor and his staff. They are state employees.

The Governor's salary is here: http://transparentnevada.com/salaries/2010/nevada/gibbons-james-a/

You can look up his staff by name.

Since the data is from 2010, the governor is Jim Gibbons and the staff would be from his administrations.

We'll have Sandoval and his staff's info next year when we get the 2011 data.

No one can come away anything but stunned by the scale of corruption involved by politicians who should be looking after the taxpayers best interests yet allow salaries to climb to these levels. They could be justified if we had job descriptions and private sector salary comparisons? Why even get that complicated. Paraphrasing Kevin Willimson (Dummies guide to Socialism), "everyone who thinks that if we fired these guys we would be unable to find qualified replacements at only half these salaries, raise your hand. That's what I thought.”

"I don't know what the Director of Leisure Services does, but for $350K you sure could get a lot of leisure."

From the City of Las Vegas website: The Department of Leisure Services provides quality cultural and recreational experiences for all ages and abilities.

So the Department performs crucial services like day camps and pottery classes and swimming lessons. Because heaven knows we can't spare any expense securing our rights to proper leisure activities or the administration thereof.
