Being a teacher isn't a half-bad job. I should know - I was a history teacher for a short time. The only problem is that you get paid based on how long you've worked, not how good you are at teaching.
Nevertheless, the estimated average salary for a teacher in Nevada is $53,547.
And don't forget about benefits.
Retirement: $10,977
Workers comp: $403
Unemployment insurance: $43
Medicare: $712
Medical Insurance $6,707
Other: $286
That brings the grand total (salary plus benefits) to $72,675 for the average teacher. It also looks like teacher pay will outpace inflation by about three percent since 2008.

A more intellectually honest trend would longer than the last 2 years. Talk about bending stats to support a position!
He's not trying to show a trend.
He's trying to show what teachers actually get paid. And that's what the chart shows.
The average teachers makes over 70K (with benefits) for 9 months worth of work. That is the equivalent of almost a 100K a year.
Is this too much or too little, you might ask? And I would submit you're asking the wrong question.
Are good teachers making enough? No. Are bad teachers making far too much? Yes.
As Patrick says - the only problem is that you get paid based on how long you've worked, not how good you are at teaching.
The data I sourced (and linked too) only goes back to 2008.
It is not dishonest to say teacher pay outpaces inflation since 2008 (nearly the high point in education spending anyway).
