Wait … so is Obama arguing against his own health care plan, or for it?

President Obama, today:

“If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. Right? The, uh … No, they are. I mean, it's the Post Office that's always having problems.”

So what you’re saying, Mr. President, is that in this case, the “public option” is a mess? Just checking.

The point our President was making was that UPS and FedEx do just fine competing against the USPS that is caked by the federal government.

Right, but the Post Office is often used as an example of something the government does really well - http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/04/hey-mister-postman/

Right the post office works well and private enterprises compete well against it even when backed by tax dollars.

I few other things that work well. The VA, Medicare that all the seniors are worried the government will ruin ( by the way the government runs Medicare), The Center for Disease Control,NOAA,NASA, The FBI, The TSA, and on and on .........

Check out some of the government imposed advantagees of the post office. And it's still struggling? Not a good sign.

VA - Remember Walter Reed? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/04/AR2007030401394.html

Medicare - will be bankrupt in less than 15 years

I don't know if I'd say those things worked well.

Medicare will not go bankrupt. It may need different funding but I doubt we would ever actually see a government agency asking the courts for bankruptcy protection.

The VA actually spends less per patient than any other form of health care. The VA serves millions every year. The VA served my father well. The VA serves my brother well.

And actually 1/3 of our population either by Medicaid, medicare or the VA, gets their healthcare from the US Government.

You're right. Medicare won't go bankrupt it in the sense that it will cease to exist, because it's run by the government and the gov't can print money and borrow from our kids. If Medicare was a private company operating on this model it would go bankrupt.

Medicare will go bankrupt in sense that it will start paying out more that it takes in. And the theory is that the Social Security and medicare taxes that you and I pay are being invested for when you and I are eligible to collect benefits.

Where's Al Gore's lockbox?!?

In the words of Carl Rove's V.P. deficits don't matter.

I think Al Gore's lock box was taken to a secure location and cracked open by the previous administration.
